Frequently Asked Questions
What is Redbrook Neighbors?
Redbrook Neighbors is a non-profit organization that is part of the “village" movement, designed to assist seniors to safely and independently age in place.
What is a “Village”?
A “village” is not a geographical location; it is a member-driven, grassroots, non-profit organization, composed of members and volunteers who come together for a common purpose: helping each other thrive, remain independent, and make new friends as they age.
The “village” movement started in the Boston area more than 20 years ago, with the original Beacon Hill Village. Today, there are more than 300 “villages,” including more than 25 in Massachusetts. Additional “villages” are in development across the country.
What Type of Services Are Provided for Members?
Community volunteers provide a number of services to members, such as:
🚙 Transportation:
Driving limitations can undermine your well-being and ability to engage in the community. Our volunteers offer rides to medical appointments, grocery and retail stores, places of worship, hair salon/barber shops, etc., making it easier and safer to stay involved in your community.
Our volunteers provide transportation in the Plymouth, Bourne, Wareham, Sandwich, Kingston, and Duxbury areas, as well as to other towns along the Route 3 corridor, as far north as Hanover. Other locations may be available depending on the availability of willing volunteers.
🏡 Home and Garden:
Some tasks around the home and yard become difficult as we age. Our volunteers can keep you feeling comfortable in your home by helping with tasks such as changing lightbulbs, carrying in groceries, hanging or moving artwork, or fertilizing shrubs in the spring.
💻 Technology Assistance:
If you need help with your cell phone, tablet, or computer, or with setting up your TV/remote, our volunteers are well-equipped to provide assistance. We can also help you use Zoom to communicate with others or to engage in online learning, or navigate the Redbrook portal.
👫 Friendly Calls or Visits:
Our volunteers are happy to provide friendly visits, perhaps to play cards or a board game, read aloud, or just chat. If you have an emergency stay in the hospital, volunteers can help take care of your pets or check on things at home.
